Pilar Sánchez Mateos is part of the Sales and Customer Service team at Aljomar . She knows the ins and outs of this company better than anyone, having watched it grow for 22 years (yes, she's about to wear her silver anniversary pin!). Customers trust her. That's why you'll always see her on the phone taking orders or answering questions. She's part of the Aljomar family. With these lines, we want you to get to know her a little better, even though she's not too keen on posing for photos :)
How long have you been with Aljomar? 22 years
What did you do before you arrived? I was an administrative assistant at an international logistics company in Salamanca.
What is your main role in the company? After working in various roles, I am currently focused on the Sales and Customer Service department.
Over these years, how have you seen the company evolve? Very positively. In all these years, which are many, I have seen the company grow from a family business to a large company while maintaining its core family essence. It has grown both nationally and internationally, and right now it is among the most important in the Iberian sector.
How do you envision the company in 20 years? It's difficult to imagine what the company will be like in 20 years. I think that with the same enthusiasm, the drive to succeed, and by following the guidelines set by the company's founder, offering the quality that has made JAMONES ALJOMAR a nationally and internationally recognized brand, it will continue to uphold the values that have made it grow and will surely be preparing the next generation to take the reins.
You are one of the people closest to the 'Aljomar family', how did you meet them? I knew the manager's parents because they were friends and neighbors of my parents.
What's the most interesting thing that's happened to you at work? After many years of talking to the same clients on the phone, I've learned to recognize them by their tone of voice when they've visited me in person or at trade shows. I've also developed friendships with many of them; I've learned to listen. No two clients are alike, and it's fascinating how, over time, you learn to distinguish their mood.
Any anecdotes? In so many years, many curious ones, like when my colleagues see a rare (international) number and they immediately leave it for me.
And what's the strangest order a customer has ever placed with you? I've had requests for churrasco, ham for frying, products with really strange names, which, after talking to the customers, turned out to be a normal product.
What sells best among your customers? Actually, all products are in high demand.
What product do your customers like the most and why? Hams, shoulder hams and loin.
And what's your favorite product? I love pork loin; and at home, it's ham.

Next year marks the company's 25th anniversary. How would you like to celebrate? First of all, it would have to be something very special. Not everyone gets to celebrate a 25th anniversary, no matter what it is. Therefore, it should be more significant than the 15th anniversary, which we still have clients who speak of as something amazing and with very fond memories. Perhaps in Vera Vieja, weather permitting , and if not, somewhere that doesn't require traveling for all the events.
