Pyfano, Association of Parents, Relatives and Friends of Children with Cancer in Castilla y León It was created in 2003, in response to the need for care demanded by the group of children with cancer and their families.
The efforts of 16 families who had suffered from cancer led to the creation of Pyfano. From its inception, the association's main objective has been to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and their families.
A diagnosis of pediatric cancer is always an unexpected and traumatic experience for the entire family. It brings about a radical change in the lives of the patient and their immediate environment, including family life (altered family dynamics), work life (problems in maintaining or continuing employment), social life (lack of social networks and support), and finances (decreased income and increased expenses as a result of the illness).
This new situation leads to a profound restructuring of family roles, given the need to cope with the new context. The family, therefore, assumes a fundamental role in the disease process, becoming a key focus of the multidisciplinary team's psychosocial intervention.
