55 years of 'La Salmantina', the first Iberian business of the Aljomar Family

The Aljomar family recently celebrated the 55th anniversary of the opening of 'La Salmantina' at their Vera Vieja estate. 'La Salmantina' was the first Iberian ham shop opened by Aljomar Jamones founders Alfonso Sánchez and Carmen Sánchez. Family, close friends, and colleagues of the Aljomar family attended this special event, sharing moments of joy and nostalgia in honor of a company that has made its mark on the Iberian ham sector. The gathering was not only an opportunity to remember the brand's beginnings but also to celebrate its growth and the consolidation of its legacy over more than half a century.

The Salamanca region

The story of Jamones Aljomar dates back to 1969, when Alfonso Sánchez and Carmen Sánchez, the company's founders, opened their first Iberian ham shop in the Triana neighborhood of Seville, under the name 'La Salmantina'. This small establishment, which is still open and operating today as a benchmark for lovers of quality Iberian products, was the starting point for what would become an internationally renowned brand of Iberian ham and cured meats. Over these 55 years, what began as a family dream has evolved into one of the leading names in Iberian ham and other acorn-fed pork products.

Today, the store is run by María Luisa Sánchez, sister of the founder, and her son Juan Luis Paredes, who maintain the legacy of this emblematic establishment with improvement projects and new developments such as the launch of a modernized online store, in line with the needs of the current market.

A complete and very emotional event

During the celebration, attendees enjoyed the natural beauty of the estate, an emblematic space for the Aljomar Family, where tradition and a commitment to quality are evident in every corner. Finca Vera Vieja, located in Retamal de Llerena (Badajoz), also represents Aljomar's ongoing effort to maintain a sustainable balance between raising acorn-fed Iberian pigs and respecting the natural environment. It is in this pastureland that the animals are raised that will give rise to the products that continue to delight the most discerning palates worldwide.

The event was not only a tribute to the founders, Alfonso and Carmen, who have been the heart and soul of the company, but also an opportunity to recognize the efforts of the second generation of the family, their children José Luis and Carmen Sánchez, who are now at the helm and continue to build upon the legacy of excellence that characterizes Jamones Aljomar. During the event, anecdotes from the early days in Triana were shared, when everything was done by hand, highlighting how, despite growth and international expansion, family values and a commitment to quality have remained unchanged.

In addition, there was room for special recognition of some of the staff with a long history with the family, helping to keep alive the dream of the first business created by the founders.

This 55th anniversary is undoubtedly a testament to the dedication and passion that the Aljomar Family has poured into their business. From 'La Salmantina' to the present day, the history of Jamones Aljomar reflects the evolution of the Iberian ham industry in Spain, always guided by innovation while remaining true to tradition. Thus, what began in a small neighborhood of Seville has transcended borders and established itself as a brand that proudly carries the Salamanca tradition throughout the world.

With this celebration, Jamones Aljomar reaffirms its commitment to quality and tradition, and looks to the future with the certainty that the family legacy will continue to grow, always hand in hand with respect for its origins and the innovation that has allowed its success throughout these 55 years.
