From Lyon to Guijuelo, passing through Sial

Thomas Guilbaut is a young Frenchman who, at only 20 years old, has demonstrated great initiative and work ethic. We had the pleasure of meeting him at the last edition of SIAL (October 2014) and now he's with us at Jamones Aljomar as an intern in Foreign Trade . 1. How long have you been living in Spain? Since May 4th, a little over a month and a half ago, although I had been here before when I was younger. 2. How did you become familiar with Jamones Aljomar? It was in Paris, France, during the last edition of SIAL, in October of last year. I attended this important international agri-food fair to look for a Spanish company where I could do my internship. There I discovered Jamones Aljomar and decided to apply. I had also been to Salamanca four years earlier with school and had really enjoyed it. Aljomar Ham Stand Paris Sial 2015 3. Why did you decide to do an internship at a company like this? I was interested in a company related to food and with an international projection, since I studied International Trade and that's why I decided on Jamones Aljomar. 4. How does the work you do at Aljomar complement your professional career? What are you learning or practicing? I haven't been here long, but I've already performed various tasks in the Export Department, such as searching for importers, preparing orders for export, answering phones, and translating. 5. If you plan to pursue your professional career in your home country, how do you think you will be able to apply the knowledge you gained at Jamones Aljomar? Do you intend to work in the agri-food sector, specifically in the meat sector? My intention is to explore another sector next year; however, I've enjoyed the meat industry, and if I'm lucky, when I finish my studies I'd like to be a salesperson and travel the world. 6. What interests you most about the production of Iberian pork products? Were you familiar with this process before starting your internship? Overall, everything is very interesting and new. In my town near Lyon, I'd already seen them making sausages and was familiar with the process, but what impressed me most was seeing so many hams together. The Aljomar Ham cellar is impressive. Do you believe that Iberian products, as produced by Jamones Aljomar, occupy a good place in the habits of French consumers? Are they well-received and valued? In France, it's common to eat pork almost year-round, and that's why I think it has been and will continue to be popular. For example, a very typical custom we have is enjoying a glass of wine with sausage. 9. What are you enjoying most about your stay in Spain? How long are you staying? I'll be here until July 4th, and I'm delighted with the friendliness of the people. That's what I like most; Spaniards, in general, are more open than the French. I'm staying with a Spanish couple who work in Salamanca, and I'm very happy with them; they treat me wonderfully.
