What is Pyfano?
It was founded in 2003 in response to the need for support among children with cancer and their families. The efforts of 16 families who had experienced cancer themselves led to the creation of Pyfano. From its inception, the association's primary objective has been to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families. A pediatric cancer diagnosis is always an unexpected and traumatic experience for the entire family. It brings about a radical change in the lives of the patient and their closest circle, impacting family life (altered family dynamics), work (problems with job development or continuity), social life (lack of support networks), and finances (decreased income and increased expenses as a result of the illness).
This new situation leads to a profound restructuring of family roles, given the need to cope with the new context. The family, therefore, assumes a fundamental role in the disease process, becoming a key focus of the multidisciplinary team's psychosocial intervention.
Pyfano aims to establish a self-help network that complements existing medical, research, and educational efforts. Among its goals is raising awareness in society about children with cancer in order to improve their quality of life through educational support, treatment assistance, and psychosocial support.
