Aljomar offsets its ecological footprint by planting trees in Burgos

CO2 Ecological Footprint of Aljomar Hams

Jamones Aljomar has obtained the Ecological Footprint Compensation Certificate thanks to its participation in Inclam's Refo-Resta CO2 Absorption Project , which involves the reforestation of a forest with native species, ensuring not only the proper maintenance of the forest area but also local employment and rural development. Jamones Aljomar has offset 6 tons of CO2 from its 2018 carbon footprint.

This project is being carried out in an area located in two municipalities in Burgos, Revilla-Cabriada and Santa María del Campo, where more than 55,000 trees have already been planted and more than 430,000 m2 have been reforested. The phase of the project in which Aljomar has participated has been carried out with the planting of various tree species, such as Quercus ilex, Quercus faginea, Pinus nigra, Pinus pinea, Prunus spp, Crataegus spp, specifically in the area of Santa María del Campo (Burgos) .

One of the main objectives of this initiative is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through reforestation, providing companies with a CSR tool that helps them achieve their environmental goals such as carbon footprint offsetting.

Aljomar Ecological Footprint Compensation

And that is the approach Aljomar has maintained for years, with a special focus on mitigating the environmental impact of its production activities. Thus, thanks to the offsetting of 6 tons of CO2, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has authorized Aljomar's registration in the Register of Carbon Footprint, Compensation and Carbon Dioxide Absorption Projects, allowing the use of the corresponding certification seal.

With this action undertaken in 2020 to offset the ecological footprint, a new step in environmental responsibility is taken, a commitment that was already included in the Carbon Footprint Minimization Plan of Aljomar's Sustainability Report.

Previously, after calculating its ecological footprint in 2018, Aljomar became one of the few Spanish companies in the Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Fishing sector that was listed in the Register of Carbon Footprint and Commitments to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
