Local grain harvest for Vera Vieja: a boost to Aljomar quality

Vera Vieja Aljomar Cereal

At Vera Vieja, Aljomar's agricultural estate, we are experiencing the final stretch of the 2025 cereal campaign. A key moment in our production cycle that not only guarantees the best feed for our animals, but also reinforces our commitment to the land and those who work it.

Located in the heart of the Campiña Sur region of Extremadura, Vera Vieja sits in one of the region's premier cereal-growing areas. Thanks to this location, we can prioritize sourcing grain from local farmers. In this way, we strengthen the regional economy, reduce our environmental footprint, and ensure the utmost freshness and quality of every grain.

A circular economy model

The added value of this harvest goes far beyond the grain itself. Many of the farmers who supply us with cereal also receive our slurry and manure, which they use as natural fertilizer on their land. It's a virtuous cycle, regulated and environmentally friendly , that gives back to the land what it provides us. Furthermore, the proximity of the farms ensures shorter and safer transport, reducing emissions and guaranteeing traceability.

Every shipment of grain that enters our facilities undergoes rigorous quality control. We take samples and perform analyses to select only the grain that meets our optimal standards . In this way, we ensure that our animals' feed is as natural and safe as the quality of the products that ultimately reach your table.

The grain harvest in Vera Vieja also represents employment, opportunities, and a sense of belonging for the local villages. Each season exemplifies how the combined efforts of farmers, ranchers, and our company strengthen a sustainable and local model—a model where the quality that defines us originates from the very land that surrounds us.

Vera Vieja today: sustainability and future

Vera Vieja, located in Retamal de Llerena (Badajoz), is home to more than 3,500 Iberian sows raised in freedom and a natural cereal factory that transforms local grain into feed for our pigs.

The estate is also a living laboratory for sustainability: in 2025, 4,000 new holm oaks and cork oaks were planted to regenerate the dehesa (pastureland). The reforestation of Vera Vieja demonstrates the company's commitment to future generations and to the preservation of this unique environment.

On the other hand, its solar energy installations help Aljomar generate more than 23% of its annual electricity consumption from renewable sources, preventing over 350 tons of CO₂ emissions. The Vera Vieja solar installation has a nominal power of 150 kW and the capacity to produce around 315,000 kWh annually. The solar energy generated at Vera Vieja results in CO₂ emission savings of 135 tons per year.
