José Luis Sánchez, assistant to the director of Jamones Aljomar and vice president of the Vitartis association, attended the recent Vitartis Board of Directors meeting, held at the Leche Gaza facilities in Zamora. The meeting positively assessed the growth of the Castile and León food sector in international markets. During the meeting, Santiago Miguel, president of Vitartis, highlighted that 71% of the region's food companies made sales in third countries last year, exceeding the national average by two percentage points.
Miguel also emphasized that, if the current pace is maintained, the regional food sector could close this year with €1.2 billion more in export revenue than before the pandemic. This increase is the result of efficient business management and the high quality of the exported products, which has allowed these companies to position themselves as leaders in international markets.
Zamora, with 340 food industries employing more than 4,000 people, stood out as a key province for regional exports, with 77% of its companies selling to third countries in 2023, generating more than €257 million. Santiago Miguel congratulated these companies for their dynamism and innovative spirit.
Furthermore, it was announced that Vitartis will present a strategic study in the last quarter of the year, in collaboration with experts from Cajamar, with the aim of identifying medium and long-term growth paths for the food industry of Castilla y León, promoting employment and development, especially in rural areas.
