Today, Vitartis hosted a noteworthy webinar showcasing ' Success Stories in Smart and Sustainable Water Management in the Food Industry ,' as part of the new Aqua-GIS Project . This online event presented practical examples of smart control applications for water management in the meat industry, chloride recovery in the sugar industry, and compact wastewater treatment plants, among others.
The Aqua-GIS project in which Vitartis collaborates includes the participation of CWP (Catalan Water Partnership), GAIA (Association of Knowledge Industries and Applied Technology of Euskadi) and NAGRIFOOD (Navarra Agri-food Cluster).
Vitartis, the Castilla y León Food Industry organization to which Jamones Aljomar has belonged since 2014, has launched this initiative with the aim of “improving the efficiency in the management of this resource in the food industries, through the implementation of collaborative projects between food companies and companies that are experts in water management technologies”.
At Aljomar, we are convinced of the need to care for our natural environment by managing resources efficiently . Therefore, we applaud these types of collective training initiatives proposed by Vitartis and have attended with interest, involving the heads of Management, the Quality Department, and Maintenance.

The work that Jamones Aljomar carries out daily undoubtedly has an impact on the environment—the air, water, and soil—and managing this impact is a priority for the company with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable operations . The two main strategies for caring for our environment are reducing our environmental impact and managing resources efficiently.
Specifically regarding water management , in 2019 Aljomar achieved a 16.3% reduction in our water consumption per pig ratio, a figure we have worked to maintain and improve upon in 2020. Furthermore, concerning the treatment of wastewater from Aljomar's facilities, we have a screening system (for solids separation) and a grease separator. Our discharges comply with all parameters permitted by the relevant authorities.
The Sustainability Report that Aljomar prepares annually outlines its commitment to the environment and the improvements it makes at each stage of production. This document also presents the measures being implemented in this area and the training plans developed to ensure that all team members work in accordance with the same principles of respect for and awareness of the environment.
