The Aljomar Group takes another step in its commitment to quality from the source by obtaining the Welfair™ Animal Welfare certification issued by Aenor , which guarantees animal welfare throughout its production cycle, a process that encompasses everything from the breeding of Iberian pigs on its own farms in Vera Vieja (Extremadura), through the El Navazo slaughterhouse (Fuentes de Béjar) and the Aljomar factory in Guijuelo, thus offering maximum information and transparency to the consumer and guaranteeing the use of good practices throughout the food chain.
This protocol certifies the requirements that livestock farms and slaughterhouses must meet regarding animal welfare, going beyond the mandatory legal framework to guarantee consumers and businesses a high standard of animal welfare. Aljomar has undergone audits that guarantee four basic principles in animal treatment: good housing, good nutrition, good health, and appropriate behavior. Furthermore, the certification includes the implementation of a traceability and self-monitoring system to offer the highest food safety guarantees, including for the meat industry.
This milestone is part of Grupo Aljomar's sustainability plan , which brings together all the company's commitments to the environment, animals, and people, with a strong focus on well-being and health. Aljomar is currently pursuing other major objectives, such as the production of organic Iberian pigs , the development of a 100% natural product line —a clean-label sausage, chorizo, and salchichón without additives, allergens, or colorings —and the strengthening of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy—with the Solidarity Product seal serving as a channel for collaboration with local social organizations.
José Luis Sánchez, Deputy Director of Aljomar, highlighted the value of this new certification, which complements the ISO 22000 Food Safety and Quality seal already held throughout the entire process of butchering and producing Iberian hams, sausages, and meats. “The AENOR Animal Welfare certification reinforces our comprehensive commitment to doing things right, from the farm with animal care and feeding, through the production processes, to the highest quality Iberian products.” Furthermore, “ensuring maximum animal welfare is a priority for us and a demand of today's responsible consumer , both in Spain and in the more than 30 countries worldwide to which we are authorized to export,” Sánchez explained.
Along with international recognition, the high quality of Aljomar products from their origin is also endorsed by the prestigious international chef Martín Berasategui (12 Michelin stars), brand ambassador, promoter of its products and another member of the Aljomar Family.
Aljomar takes another step in its company philosophy that conceives of food as a means to improve the quality of life of consumers, including a production system that is fully respectful of nature and animals.
